Initially a Caxton-owned publication, the paper celebrated its 10th birthday in 2011. Caxton approached Capital Media Group late 2009 and an agreement was reached, whereby the company would purchase a 55% stake in Maritzburg Sun, and take over management responsibility. As of 1 April 2010, Maritzburg Sun now falls under Capital Newspapers. With a circulation of 30 000, the paper is distributed door to door in the Southern, Northern and Central areas of Pietermaritzburg. It has a strong schools content which has made it one of the trusted platforms for schools. Aside from this the paper also has a good balance of social issues and business content and this makes it a trusted source to our readers.
