In 1986, there was a dire need for an affordable newspaper within the Indian community. This prompted Vijay Maharaj, CEO of The Rising Sun Newspapers to launch a free newspaper to document, profile and broadcast the latest news and advertising specials. Presently, our free community papers are delivered to every door weekly. In KwaZulu-Natal, we serve the communities of Chatsworth, Phoenix, Verulam and Tongaat, Merebank, Overport and Mid-South Coast. In Gauteng, we reach out to the communities of Lenasia, Fordsburg and Mayfair and Laudium. The Rising Sun Newspaper has become a powerful medium since its inception and continues to earn the respect among advertisers as well as readers.

Our motto is to work towards a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic South Africa. We believe that education is the weapon to fight ignorance, poverty and unemployment.

Our dynamic team of journalists strive to provide breaking news with their cutting edge journalism skills. We continue to highlight achievements, address social issues and document the development of our communities.
